How many styles should I start with for my new golf brand?

This is one of the most common questions I get from golf apparel startups.

How many styles should I start with?

As much as I would love to help you design a ten piece collection, the actual answer to this question, is: one or two.  Three at the most.

Why?

Because starting your own golf apparel brand is a lot.

It’s like renovating your whole house at once rather than doing it room by room.  Can you do it?  Sure.  But it’s a lot more stressful than doing a room or two at a time.

I recommend going through the process with just one or two styles first to get the lay of the land before adding more.

When it’s your first time, starting with more than a couple of styles gets overwhelming fast.

Like juggling contractors and sliding budgets and timelines to renovate your whole house at once, there are so many decisions and moving parts when you’re starting your apparel line.

It’s also a steep learning curve.

You’ll be doing your first proto reviews, learning how to work with a factory, and approving and placing your first order.

Plus, it’s expensive, so mistakes are expensive, too.

Once you’ve gone through the process with one (or two) styles, you’ll have the lay of the land and the next styles will feel easier.

It’s easy to get excited and want to do everything all at once, but the whole process is going to go better if you start with just a couple of styles for the first round.
