How many tech packs do I need for my golf style?

It depends.

One of the of the most common questions new brands ask me is this:

How many tech packs do I need for my new style?

Let’s say you want to create a new golf polo.  You know you want a navy and a white, a couple of stripes, and a micro print.

So how many tech packs do you need for that?

Probably only one.

Assuming nothing else on the style is changing, you can do all those colors and designs with just one tech pack.

If you can answer 'no' to all of the following questions, you don't need another tech pack:

1.      If you had a plain black and white line drawing sketch of your style (like you’ll have in your tech pack, example below) does anything on this sketch change?  Are you adding a logo?  Changing a logo?  Removing the side vent?  Adding or changing anything else that would show here?

2.      How about size?  Are you changing the fit at all, maybe creating a more relaxed fit, or adding a new athletic fit?

3.      What about fabric?  Are you changing fabric?  Updating the collar or the placket where the buttons are to a different color?

4.      Are you updating any inside labels?  Maybe going from a woven/fabric label to a printed one?

5.      Are you adding color blocking (like a second color fabric to the bottom half of the shirt)?

Did you answer 'no' to all the questions? Then you don't need another tech pack.‍ ‍

You can have as many colors, prints, and patterns as you like, with just the one tech pack.

This also means you can add on new prints and colors later on with this same tech pack, so you can use it for years to come. ‍ ‍

I hope this helps clarify the process!
